Kendrick Lamar & Janelle Monáe Perform At White House BBQ

President Obama is an avowed fan of Kendrick Lamar, and last night POTUS invited Lamar and Janelle Monáe to perform at the White House 4th of July BBQ.
“I have to tell you that these two I’ve gotten a chance to know, and they are both amazing
artists; talented and popular and doing great things,” the president said at the event. “But they’re also very conscious about their responsibilities and obligations. They put in a lot of time and effort on behalf of a lot of causes that are important. We’re really proud of them for that.”
Lamar’s setlist was a bit surprising considering the setting: heavily censored good kid songs like “Poetic Justice,” “Money Trees” and “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” in addition toTPAB’s “Alright.”
Monae, fresh off her stirringPrince tribute last month, performed “Electric Lady,” “Q.U.E.E.N.” and a cover of “Let’s Go Crazy.” Plus the two joined the president in singing “Happy Birthday” to Malia Obama (and America).
